Urban Dance City (UDC) is a leading urban dance company based in Mitcham SW London. Attendees mainly travel to us from surrounding local areas in South London such as Streatham, Colliers Wood, Tooting, Carshalton, Hackbridge, Wallington, Norbury, Croydon, Norwood, Thornton Heath, Merton, Morden, Sutton and Wimbledon.

We specialise in urban dance classes for children & young adults to include Commerical Street, Afrobeats, Hip Hop, House, Dancehall, Acro and Contemporary.  Taught by energetic teachers who engage, care and empower students boosting students motivation and self esteem. Students are invited to perform in shows, events and can take IDTA streetdance exams (optional).

Formerly called DanceMode (Mitcham) established in 2004, Urban Dance City (UDC) launched in 2018 bringing you these popular urban dance styles with cultural influence that shapes the now and future of how these styles were and continue to be developed.  When students learn to dance it builds confidence and helps them acquire life skills from attending our dance classes. Approved by the IDTA and recoginsed by the NHS, UDC practices safe dance practice in a positive and fun manner supporting students health in mind, body and soul.

UDC founder members are first aid trained, DBS checked and insured.

The Founder

Dawn Mendonca, the driving force behind Urban Dance City (UDC), is a former London & Home Counties young people’s freestyle dance champion and a past performer in radio and music roadshows.

A BRIT Performing Arts & Technology FE graduate, she’s a skilled networker and presenter, connecting alumni with industry opportunities.

Dawn is a qualified IDTA professional dance teacher at Fellowship level, boasting a Level 4 Diploma in Dance Teaching. She leads Dance Teacher Training (DTT) courses affiliated with the International Dance Teachers Association, imparting her expertise to aspiring instructors.

Beyond teaching, Dawn guides young performers by connecting them with agencies for West End, TV/film, commercials, music video, and modeling roles. UDC exclusive auditions (by invite) under her direction provide growth opportunities for members.

Recognised by the Mayor of Merton, Dawn received the “Woman of Substance” award for her impactful community contributions and resilience.

Guest Choreographers

To enhance students experience we regularly invite top industry choreographers to work with teachers and advanced students for workshops.  Not only are regular teachers encouraged to attend exhibitions like MoveIt to network and attend open air classes, but choregraphers are also invited to lead Urban Dance City workshops as inhouse training. Instructors are encouraged to learn how to create suitable choreography for all levels of students and work as team sharing ideas to create effective group choreography for shows and competitions.
